CREST AWARDS

The Crest Awards are a unified campus recognition of the efforts and achievements of students outside of the classroom. These awards are sponsored annually by the Division of Student Affairs and recognize students for demonstrating excellence in leadership, scholarship, and community service, as well as initiative and promise in campus leadership. Nominations are made by students, faculty, and staff. 

Save the Date: The Student Crest Awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 6 p.m. in the Qatar Ballroom, 212 Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life.


Nominations will be made via OrgSync through the New Student & Leadership Programs Portal. Review the criteria for each Crest Award HERE.

SPRING 2017 TIMELINE

  • February 6: Award Nominations Open in OrgSync
  • March 3: Award Nominations Close
  • March 10 - 24: Award Committees review Nominations and make selections
  • April 19: Winners Announced at the 2017 Crest Awards ceremony

Review the list of awards below. The full nomination criteria for each award can be found in OrgSync. New Student & Leadership Programs will perform an enrollment verification, GPA and conduct check on each nominee. Nominators should be prepared to upload a copy of the student's resume for individual awards to complete the nomination.

 

 

AWARDS


Leland P. Bennett Student Employee Award

Former Director of the Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life, Leland Bennett worked with many student workers, mentoring them and helping them learn from their work. During his 45-year career at Tulane, Leland was a strong advocate for and champion of student employees. This award honors one undergraduate student in the Division of Student Affairs who has consistently put great effort into their work as a student employee and has contributed significantly to the processes and functions of the department in which the student is employed. 

 

Emerging Student Leader Award

This award recognizes up to five first-year and/or sophomore students who have demonstrated outstanding involvement and initiative as well as great promise in the area of leadership on campus.

Exemplary Practice Award

This award recognizes and celebrates the outstanding efforts and achievements of up to three individual student organizations. The award will recognize student groups that demonstrate exemplary skill, creativity, and resourcefulness in preparation, program delivery, and evaluation of a specific organizational event or program.


Gary Lawton Fretwell Award 

Named for the former Associate Vice President for Student Affairs Gary Fretwell, this award recognizes one undergraduate and one graduate student who have served in leadership roles within student organizations and have contributed to the growth and success of the organization as well as the development of other students.


James F. Kilroy Provost Award

This award, named for Tulane University Provost James Kilroy (1990-1996), recognizes one outstanding undergraduate senior student and one graduating graduate who have excelled scholastically either through academic achievement or research, have distinguished records of involvement, and have excelled in the area of student leadership on campus.


Dean Donald R. Moore Award

Named for the former Dean of Students Don Moore, this award recognizes one undergraduate and one graduate student who have served in significant leadership positions during the year, have embodied servant leadership, and exhibit exceptional character.


Daniel P. Nadler Award

This award is named for the former Associate Vice President of Student Affairs Dan Nadler. His integrity and his encouragement of and respect for others are greatly appreciated by both students and colleagues. This award honors up to two junior students who have shown outstanding involvement and initiative as student leaders. The nominees will have contributed greatly to campus life, shown care for others and contributed to the success of a student organization, as well as demonstrated great integrity and encouragement of and respect for others.


Service & Leadership Award

This award recognizes one undergraduate and one graduate student who have made significant contributions to the New Orleans community through the combination of outstanding community service and leadership.


Spirit Award

The Spirit Award recognizes one student or organization/group that has demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting campus spirit, school pride, and loyalty to Tulane. Strong nominations will not only share details regarding examples but also, when applicable, share information related to the impact this has had on their peers and Tulane.


John H. Stibbs Memorial Award

The John H. Stibbs Memorial Award was established as an endowed fund and recognizes one undergraduate student for outstanding dedication to the Tulane University community. The nominees will have fostered collaborative relationships to develop a vision for bettering the community and implementing an action plan to create change. In addition, the winner will receive a monetary award from the endowment.

 

Student Organization Advisor of the Year Award

The Student Organization Advisor of the Year award recognizes an advisor who has demonstrated commitment to the students they advise, desires to spread the message of the group they oversee, and attempts to promote an atmosphere conducive to education and leadership development

The recipient of this award will have gone beyond the usual advising duties to help members of an organization accomplish their goals and improve the functioning of the organization as a whole. This award is meant to honor advisors who have taken a personal interest in the students they work with.

 

Martha H. Sullivan Student Organization of the Year Award

Former Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Martha Sullivan was a strong advocate for student organizations and their members. Dr. Sullivan was respected and beloved by the students she worked with and they and their organizations enjoyed her full support and encouragement. 

This award recognizes a student organization that has been a leader among the more than 250 Recognized Student Organizations at Tulane University. The award will be presented to the student organization that has demonstrated involvement and leadership in the Tulane community, offered impactful programming, cultivated their membership, and has had a significant positive influence on Tulane and the surrounding communities. The winning organization will receive a $250 award.
