Move-in Weekend

Preparation for Move-In

To help keep your student's preparation on track, follow the New Student Summer Checklist for the Class of 2021.

In July Housing and Residence Life emailed students' residence hall room assignments along with move-in instructions. You can also find those instructions for first year, returning and transfer students here.

The first week of August, Mail Services emailed mailbox numbers and detailed instructions for mailing and shipping packages to campus to on-campus students' Tulane e-mail addresses. First year and transfer on-campus students will also receive print instructions at their permanent home addresses.

To learn more about the process, watch our 2017 Move-In, Shipping and Mail Services parent webinar video or read the slides. You can also see how the whole operation works in The Move-In Day Two-Step video from 2012!

Move-in Weekend

Move-In Day for all first year students is on Friday, August 25, 2017. Programs for parents and families will end on Saturday, August 26, 2017. Parents and families are encouraged and welcome to stay through Saturday afternoon, August 26 to attend the President's Convocation for New Students on Saturday morning and the Academic Schools Open Houses and Deans' Receptions on Saturday afternoon. Programs for parents end by late afternoon Saturday since new students have required educational and transition programs on Sunday, August 27. Fall semester classes start on Monday, August 28. We understand that your family and work commitments may prevent you from staying with us for the entire weekend and we encourage you to make your travel arrangements as you need.

Move-In Weekend Schedule

The comprehensive Fall Welcome schedule includes programs planned for new students and parents August 25 – 26 during Move-In Weekend and for new students from Sunday, August 27 throughout the first three weeks of the fall semester. *Our Fall Welcome Schedule is still being finalized. Event dates, times, and locations are subject to change.

If you are making dinner plans and restaurant reservations during Move-In Weekend, please note that new students have dinner breaks on Friday, August 25 from 5 – 7:45 pm and Saturday, August 26 from 5 – 7:30 pm. Please make early dinner plans so students can be back on campus in time for the mandatory events immediately following those breaks.

Our Move-In Resource 2017, with a map, campus services chart, parking and transportation directions, dining options, helpful people and signature events is online here. You'll be able pick up a print copy of this Move-In Resource at your student's residence hall on Move-In Day or from the Family Welcome Center near the Information Desk of the Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life on Friday, August 25 between 9 am and 2 pm.Beginning August 15, 2017, you can download the "Tulane University Fall Welcome" mobile app from the App Store and Google Play.
