Shifting the Paradigm Event Questions 

On August 31st, 2015, 325 members of the Tulane Community including President Fitts, Provost Michael Bernstein, and Dr. Dusty Porter, Vice President of Student Affairs to talk about how we can work together to shift the paradigm and end sexual violence. Students could ask questions of a panel of faculty, staff and students.

  • Julia Broussard, LMSW
    Assistant Director of Case Management & Victim Support Services
    Julia is the Assistant Director of Case Management and Victim Support Services. As part of Student Resources and Support Services (SRSS), Julia coordinates accommodations and resources for survivors of gender-based personal violence. Services provided through her role include emergency housing, housing reassignment, physical and mental health referrals, legal referrals, and advocacy.

  • Lindsey Greeson, MS, CHES
    Director of theWELL, SVPEC Chair
    Lindsey chairs the Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Committee – an interdisciplinary team comprised of students, faculty, staff, and administrators seeking to prevent the continuation of gender-based personal violence at Tulane and in the community. Lindsey’s primary role on campus is as the Director of theWELL, the public health arm of Campus Health, where she seeks to promote student well being and resiliency through comprehensive wellness programming, including the prevention of sexual violence through One Wave and other initiatives.

  • Vanessa Rodriguez, JD, MA
    Director of Student Conduct
    Vanessa is the Director of Student Conduct. With a background in Drama Therapy, Vanessa has served as a psychotherapist in different capacities prior to obtaining her J.D. from the Tulane Law School. Student Conduct guides both the complainant and the respondent through the determination and sanctioning processes associated with sexual misconduct, and all proceedings and associated documentation are confidential records as part of FERPA.

  • Tara Wilson
    Undergraduate Student, SAPHE & Panhellenic President
    Tara is a History and Political Science major in the School of Liberal Arts. She is an active member of the SVPEC, the president of the Sexual Aggression Peer Hotline and Education group, a member of Chi Omega Sorority, and she is the President of the Panhellenic Council. Tara is also a Newcomb College Institute intern. She is the Vice-President of Women in Politics.

  • Donna Bender, PhD
    Director of Counseling and Psychological Services
    Donna is Chair of the Health Communication Subcommittee of the Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Coalition. As Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), she is dedicated to ensuring that support is available to victims of sexual violence and all students who need assistance with mental health concerns. Donna and CAPS staff work with campus partners to promote self-care and well being across the Tulane community.

  • Dawn Bauer, MSN, FNP-BC
    Health Care Provider, Student Health Center
    As a Health Care Provider at the Uptown SHC in the Preventative Health/Women’s Health Clinic, Dawn addresses the needs and provides confidential, quality screening services to victims/survivors of sexual violence. Medical evaluations, treatments, education, and follow-ups are provided at the SHC. Through education, Dawn and staff aim to prevent future violence and collaborate with community partners and refer to advocate resources when appropriate.

  • Dennis Kehoe, PhD
    Faculty, Faculty Senate
    Dennis is a professor of Classical Studies in the School of Liberal Arts. In addition, he is chair of Tulane’s Senate Committee on Equal Opportunity and Institutional Equity Committee, as well as a member of the Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Committee. His role in this committee is to engage in outreach to faculty.

  • Wendy Stark, JD
    Director of the Office of Institutional Equity
    Tulane’s Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) investigation team includes Deborah Love, Vice-President of OIE/Diversity Initiatives, Wendy Stark, Director, and Kandace Hamilton, Associate Director. In addition to supporting Tulane’s efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion, OIE oversees and supports Tulane University's compliance efforts, including federal and state reporting requirements in the areas of equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, non-discrimination, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. OIE conducts prompt and objective investigations into complaints of discrimination and harassment, including sexual harassment.   • Scott Tims, PhD
    Assistant Vice President of Campus Health
    Scott oversees the three areas of Campus Health: CAPS, the Student Health Center, and theWELL. Through his work, Scott advocates for the well-being of all students – particularly those who are survivors of gender-based personal violence. Scott is on the senior leadership team within the Division of Student Affairs, and he works to promote health policy that is inclusive of violence prevention, supporting survivors, and addressing early intervention. Recognizing alcohol’s role on campus, including its use in facilitating sexual violence, Scott was able to successfully coordinate with university partners and administrators to implement a new comprehensive and streamlined alcohol policy for the 2015-2016 academic year (alcohol.tulane.edu).

 

Event Questions
