Summer Fellowships

Summer Veterinary Program


Program Description:

The Tulane National Primate Research Center (TNPRC) will offer a nine-week Summer Veterinary Student Program from June 2017 through early August 2017 for a limited number of veterninary students who are interested in working in the the Division of Veterinary Medicine. The goal of the program is to introduce veterinary students to nonhuman primate medicine.

Successful Program candidates are paired with a TNPRC faculty veterinarian and will be exposed to all aspects of diagnostic and clinical veterinary medicine including regulatory issues, colony health surveillance, research support, and clinical nonhuman primate medicine, surgery, and pathology. At the end of the program, students will be expected to present a short case report to the Center's faculty and staff.

Application Deadline: February 1, 2017 

Program Date: June 2, 2017 - August 4, 2017 (9 weeks)

Attendance is required for the 9 week duration, only apply if you can make this commitment



Student Requirements: 

  • Veterinary Students in their first to third year of veterinary school
  • Must be strongly motivated to learn about the field of laboratory animal medicine, specifically nonhuman primate medicine and surgery in a research setting
  • Must have own transportation and be able to make own housing arrangements (please note: no public transportation is available in the surrounding area)

Program Compensation:


Successful candidates will receive $15.31 per hour (based on 37.5 hour work week) for duration of the Program.

Summer Research Fellowship Program


Program Description:

The Tulane National Primate Research Center (TNPRC) will offer a nine-week Summer Research Fellowship Program from June 2017 through early August 2017 for a limited number of undergraduate students interested in biomedical research. The goal of the Program is to introduce students to the principles and practice of scientific research.

Successful Program candidates are paired with a TNPRC faculty mentor and will be expected to complete a short research project and present the research findings to the Center's faculty and staff. Students assigned to laboratory-based projects will not have contact with nonhuman primates.

Program openings are available in the following Divisions of the Primate Research Center: Comparative Pathology, Microbiology, Immunology, Bacteriology and Parasitology, Regenerative Medicine and Veterinary Medicine's Environmental Enrichment Unit. Applicants may state Division preference, but will not be able to pre-select. The Summer Research Fellowship Program selection committee assigns students to mentors.

  • Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing
  • Must be strongly motivated to participate in ongoing research projects at the TNPRC

Successful candidates will receive $10.67 per hour (based on 37.5 hour work week) for duration of the Program
