Summer Research Program


Description:

The Tulane National Primate Research Center (TNPRC) offers a nine-week Summer Research Program from June through early August 2019 to a limited number of undergraduate students interested in biomedical research. The program introduces students to the principles and practice of scientific research.

Successful Program candidates are paired with a TNPRC faculty mentor and will be expected to complete a short research project and present the research findings to the Center's faculty and staff. Students assigned to laboratory-based projects do not have contact with nonhuman primates.

Program openings are available in the following Divisions of the TNPRC: Comparative Pathology, Microbiology, Immunology, Regenerative Medicine and Veterinary Medicine's Environmental Enrichment Unit. Applicants may state Division preference, but will not be able to pre-select. The Program's selection committee assigns students to mentors.


Timeline:

Application Deadline: February 1, 2019

Program Date: May 31, 2019 - August 2, 2019 (9 weeks)

Attendance is required for the 9 week duration, only apply if you can make this commitment.


Application Requirements:

  • Completion of at least one year of undergraduate coursework in biology or biomedical related fields
  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing
  • Motivation to participate in ongoing research projects at the TNPRC
  • Own transportation and housing arrangements (There is neither public transportation nor are there sidewalks/bicycle paths in the surrounding area)

TNPRC is in Covington, a small town, 45-miles north of New Orleans. There is neither public transportation nor sidewalks/bicycle paths in the surrounding area.


Compensation:

Successful candidates will receive $10.67 per hour (based on 37.5 hour work week) for duration of the Program
