Faculty Technology Lab

Revamped space for faculty engagement with teaching
and learning technology.

Posted: 08/20/2012

Faculty, have you stopped by Howard-Tilton 304 lately? When you do, you’ll be greeted with a modern, updated space designed for collaborative teaching and learning exploration. The new space is being christened the Faculty Technology Lab in accordance with the idea of engaging faculty with new technology-based tools and practices.  “Ideally faculty will experience cutting-edge technologies before their practice has solidified and while still at a point where the faculty’s pedagogical ideas can shape the technologies’ development and use.” says Mike Griffith, lead instructional technologist. “Our goal was to create a space where faculty will like to work and know that they will be supported”

The Faculty Technology Lab is outfitted with interactive white  boards, space for videoconferencing, a 44” large-format printer, and modular furniture that can be reconfigured for a variety of working groups. A Kinect controller will be installed in the near future. And if you have ever wondered how a 3D printer works, you’ll be able use one hands-on at the Lab.

Instructional Technologists Mike Griffith and David
Robinson, who both serve as adjunct faculty, will
continue to conduct traditional workshops featuring best practices with myTulane, Qualtrics survey tool, and effective presenting. New programming will address mobile and blended teaching and learning practices.

Faculty will continue to have access to one-on-one consulting regarding any kind of teaching technology, classroom and course development, media creation and digitization, video and web conferencing and more.
