Technology support for students at Tulane comes in a variety of ways.
From your wireless setup, connect to the wireless network by selecting ‘eduroam’ and entering your Tulane email address and password when prompted. Eduroam authentication allows Tulane students access to wireless networks on other participating college campuses as well. If you are unable to connect your device to eduroam, contact the TSNOC:

There is wireless coverage throughout the Uptown and Health Sciences Center campuses. All common areas and classrooms offer Wi-Fi as well as all residence hall rooms and common areas on the Uptown campus. Residence halls on both campuses offer one Ethernet connection for each occupant.
Students are not allowed to use routers to broadcast personal wireless networks. These rogue networks can interfere with the primary wireless network.
The password to your Tulane account is your “key” to the university’s many electronic resources, such as myTulane and E-Academy. You should guard your password as you would your personal bankcard and PIN. Do not share it, write it down or make it easy for someone to guess. Sharing or misusing your Tulane user account is a violation of the Code of Student Conduct and can result in sanctions.
Tulane requires you to change your password at least once every six months, though you may change it more frequently if you wish. Change your password by visiting https://password.tulane.edu/ and following the online instructions. The first time you visit this site you will be required to provide two challenge questions. The next time you attempt to change your password, these questions may be used to verify your identity.
Sharing or downloading copyrighted music & movies without paying for it is against the law. So, buy your tunes & stay out of court.
Whether you’re surfing the Internet, checking your e-mail, or responding to IM – don’t click on anything unless you asked someone to send it to you. Links, attachments, and files of any type can contain malicious code, and clicking on them gives permission for that code to execute. When in doubt, delete the email or message. For help with avoiding phishing scams, go to http://phishbait.tulane.edu. Challenge your friends to see who can get the highest score.
Use good judgment with your online social network accounts and postings! What do you want future employers, administrators, faculty, and maybe even your parents to see?
Don’t post overly personal information like cell phone numbers, address, class schedule, etc. unless you feel comfortable being contacted by strangers. Students have been stalked by uninvited viewers of their Facebook pages when they posted overly personal information. Don’t post pictures of your friends without their permission. It may be considered an invasion of their privacy, or may jeopardize their chances for a job, or their scholarships.
myTulane (Blackboard) is an online course management system designed to give around-the-clock access to course materials and to facilitate collaboration and communication between students.
Dig a little deeper, however, and you’ll soon find that myTulane offers a lot more than just online course environments. Check out the Community System tabs to keep up with the goings-on with Campus Life, Libraries and your school or college. You’ll also find Organizations (listed under My Organizations) created to communicate and share ideas with fellow members of your student clubs, Greek life and academic groups. And don’t forget to make use of your myContent tab to store and share materials from any Web-enabled computer. Login at http://mytulane.blackboard.com. Computers and other digital conveniences are available in the Tulane Technology Commons – public computing spaces located throughout the Uptown campus. Visit the Technology Commons to compose a paper, edit media, produce a presentation, print a document, or just surf the Web. Each Technology Commons includes the following: high-end computers, a full array of software, high-resolution laser printer, and fast network connections. Library resources and services The librarians and staff at Howard-Tilton Memorial Library are happy to assist you with all your research needs. Visit the Research Help Desk in the Learning Commons for help locating books and articles in our extensive collection of print and electronic resources. Get to know the librarian who specializes in your major subject area; we are available for one-on-one consultations to help you find what you need for your research papers. The library website at http://library. tulane.edu provides a wealth of subscription databases chock full of full-text journal articles, print and e-books, newspapers, data and statistics, and archival materials which are available to Tulane students both on and off campus. And what “Howie-T” doesn’t own, we can borrow from other libraries locally or across the country with our Inter-Library Loan service! Librarians will teach library sessions with some of your classes, and offer open workshops every semester to help you learn how to conduct research. Howard-Tilton Memorial Library is a great place for quiet study and research, but a 21st Century education requires more. So we created The Learning Commons on the first floor of “Howie-T.” In this dynamic space you can get one-on-one research help from a librarian, or computing assistance from a Technology Services “geek.” The Learning Commons offers comfortable seating for group or individual study, dry-erase boards and a large touch-screen collaborative work station, and a PJ’s Coffee stand to keep you going. And the technology options available are extensive! We provide iMacs and PCs equipped with an array of specialized software, including productivity apps, data analysis utilities, and media production tools. We have scanners, copiers, and printers, and a digital media lab with audio and video editing software. You can also bring your own laptop and connect to our high-speed wireless network, taking advantage of our convenient electrical locations and lap-top friendly seating. Working on a multimedia project? Ask about the equipment available for check out, including video cameras, tripods, headphones and portable hard drives. So whether you are finishing off that research paper, working on a group project, or checking e-mail, the Learning Commons is here to support your academic and technology needs.
Tulane WaveMail is one of the university’s official channels for communicating with students. All Wavemail accounts feature a 50GB mailbox and enhanced calendar and contact sharing.
You can access your Tulane WaveMail email account from anywhere in the world, using any computer with a Web browser at http://outlook.com/tulane.edu. Likewise, email clients such as Outlook for Mac or Windows and a large variety of smartphones/tablets can be used for accessing WaveMail. Hardware, software and accessories
Technology Services and University Services have teamed up to bring you Technology Connection, which is the University owned and operated store that assists students, faculty, and staff with their personal and institutional hardware, software, and accessory needs. Technology Connection’s partnerships and collaboration with university schools, departments, and administration allow us to provide tailored technology solutions and services to support your success at Tulane. Through Technology Connection, Tulane maintains hardware reseller agreements with Apple and Dell as well as other technology hardware, software and accessory brands to provide quality products at a convenient location and at educational pricing. As an Apple Authorized Campus Store, Technology Connection maintains in-store demos and offers enrolled students special academic pricing.
Technology Connection is an Apple Authorized Repair Center and employs technicians certified in both Apple and Dell equipment repairs. Technology Connection can provide both in warranty and out of warranty repairs on most Apple and Dell hardware from our in-store repair center. Microsoft’s OneDrive is available to students as a free cloud storage solution. OneDrive is a part of Microsoft Office365 and provides one terabyte of storage as long as a student is enrolled at Tulane. Although the Tulane Box environment is only available to faculty and staff, students may create personal accounts directly with Box with 10GB of storage. Visit https://www.box.com to set up your box account. Please note that the password you set up with Box will not be synced with your Tulane password.
The myTulane myContent repository is a third option for storing student files. Visit https://mytulane.blackboard.com. Log in and click the myContent tab.
Technology Services is hiring! Whatever your tech background, Technology Services is always looking for smart, enthusiastic students to help keep the data flowing across the university. Work study and non-work study positions are available throughout campus. Work as a student assistant or supervisor in the Technology Commons, the Technology Service Center, Classroom Support, the Learning Commons, or Onsite Support. Technical knowledge is helpful but not required.
Several schools offer additional support services to students in their courses, beyond those provided by Technology Services. The Law School provides support for file and print sharing within the Law School (including wireless printing), tools on the Law School intranet and Internet site, application support, and support for computer-based exam software. The A.B. Freeman School of Business provides support for accounts as well as file and printer sharing on the Freeman network, support for lab and classroom applications, and research database support. The School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine supports its students through computer labs in the Tidewater Building, open 70 hours a week, in lab and classroom configurations. The School of Social Work features a 12 seat computer lab.
A new and improved Tulane Mobile app for iOS is now available for download in the Apple Store. In addition to news, sports and videos, the app now includes a directory to find contact information for students, faculty and staff. Students can search the University directory and make calls or send email directly from the app. The app also integrates with the student information system allowing students to check grades and view schedules. The campus map has improved features as well.
