Most insurance policies maintained by the University exclude coverage
for claims occurring outside the United States. Therefore, specific insurance coverage must be
purchased to protect the University, its faculty and students when participating in foreign programs
sponsored by Tulane. In order to secure the coverage, you must complete the Foreign Program
Schedule for each program and forward it to Risk Management, 300 Gibson Hall, fax 862-8766.
Each Spring, prior to the annual insurance renewal, Risk Management and
The Center for International Studies will request that each Department update
their Foreign Program Insurance Registration Form.
NOTE: Coverage is not provided for travel in countries subject to U.S.
trade embargoes except Cuba (see below) Please check
the Office of Foreign Assets Control
of the U.S. Department of the Treasury for a list of countries subject
to trade embargoes and contact Risk Management if you plan to travel to one of these countries. Our insurance company will provide coverage for travel in Cuba only if it is
authorized under a license from the U.S. State Department. . Tulane has special
educational licenses that allow it to arrange for travel to Cuba under very strict
rules for educational and professional research purposes In order to secure the coverage,
the completed Foreign Program Insurance Registration Form and a notarized copy of the State Department Travel
License must be provided to the insurance company before the anticipated travel. Please contact
Risk Management at least one month prior to anticipated travel to Cuba for assistance
in securing insurance coverage. The following insurance policies are maintained for foreign academic programs: The General Liability policy will pay for all amounts
the University and employees acting on behalf of the University are obligated to pay due to negligence that results
in personal injury and/or property damage to a third party, subject
to exclusions. The Automobile Liability insurance provides coverage
for vehicles owned or leased by the University and employees acting on behalf of the University in connection with
the program. The coverage is excess of the locally admitted
automobile insurance, if any. Therefore, you must purchase
local automobile insurance in the host country if it is
available. Minimum limits that need to be purchased are
the local statutory limits or $20,000, whichever is greater.
The Worker's Compensation insurance provides coverage for injury
or death of an employee arising out of the course and scope of employment.
This policy also provides coverage for medical expenses in connection with work related injury. Coverage for War is excluded.
The International SOS Assistance Program provides medical and security evacuation of students, staff and employees or repatriation of remains in the event of death.This program does not cover
routine health care for illness or injury. All students traveling to a foreign country should be advised to check their
health insurance coverage to insure that it provides coverage in the foreign country.
All work related injuries and incidents involving
personal injury or property damage to third parties
should be promptly reported to Risk Management. Report
all automobile accidents in accordance with local requirements
and the provisions contained in separately purchased local automobile
liability policies and to Risk Management . For further information, call the Office of
