EENS 3050/6050 Field Trips

Fall 2012

Field trips to the levee breaches that occurred during Hurricane Katrina will take place on the following dates:

Saturday, September 15
Sunday, September 30

All field trips last about 4.5 hours.

There is space on each trip for 40 students and you must sign up for a trip prior to attending to assure that there will be space for you on the trip that you choose.  To sign up, send an email to Spaces will be reserved on a first come - first served basis.  Please state in your email the date on which you prefer to attend.

Once I receive your email I will put you on the list for that day and will send you an email confirming that you are on the list.  If there is no space left on the day you prefer, I will send you an email requesting an alternate date.  You can see the list of those signed up for each day and to confirm that your name is on the list by clicking on the link for that day in the list above.

If you sign up for a trip, please do not miss it, as you may not be able to go on a future trip if you have reserved space on a trip and then failed to show up for that trip..

On the day of your trip be sure to arrive at the starting location before 9:00 AM. The field trip will leave from Freret Street in front of the Howard Tilton Library.   Wear shoes appropriate for walking on rough terrain and clothes suitable for the weather that day.  Be sure to bring a notebook, something to drink, and, if you want, a camera.   If the weather looks like it will be really bad on the morning of a scheduled trip, you can call me on my cell phone at 504-812-9397 after 8:30 AM on the morning of the trip to inquire about whether the trip will go or not.

A field trip guidebook in PDF format is available at

Be warned that the guidebook contains high resolution color images, so the files are large and printing may take a while on a slow printer.
