Political struggles often surround differing conceptions of what constitutes “the good life.”  In this class, we will examine some of the many different versions of the good life that have informed (and that continue to inform) real political struggles, comparing their relative strengths and weaknesses as we go.  In so doing, we will also explore the role of ideology in American politics today and our responsibilities as citizens.
