Supplementing first-year stipends
for students enrolled in science,
technology, engineering and
mathematics (STEM) doctoral
programs. Sixteen awards of
$3,000 each are available for
recruiting students for Fall Admissions. The awards
may be used as up-front bonuses,
added to regular stipends or summer
pay. Department graduate coordinators
or individual faculty interested in
receiving this support should
provide the following information to
the GAELA Program at Tulane
University:
- Name, race/ethnicity, level of
training (B.S., M.S.), and
institutional affiliation of the
student you wish to be considered
for a stipend supplement.
- Applicant's G.P.A. and G.R.E.
scores (verbal plus quantitative,
and percentile ranking of subject
test score, if applicable).
- Ranking in departmental
applicant pool, if applicable (how
strong is the applicant relative
to others in pool) and whether or
not the student has been accepted.
- Name of prospective faculty
mentor. Nature of the
interactions between the student
and the prospective mentor (prior
research experience, professional
interaction, personal recruiting,
recommendation of colleagues).
- Form and amount of support the
student will receive (teaching
assistantship, research
assistantship, extramurally funded
research fellowship).
- Date a decision on the
application is needed by.
- Students must be applying for
a doctoral degree program.
Applicants for travel
supplements must:
- Be a minority doctoral
students majoring in STEM
discipline
- Be presenting a paper or
poster at a research conference
- Provide the following
information: location of
conference, date of conference,
and purpose of conference
Other requirements/rules:
- Endorsement from advisor or
chair
- One award per student per year
- Expenses reimbursed up to a
maximum of $1,000
- Awards can be combined with
support from other sources
