Brain Awareness Week; Concussion and Brain injury Awareness
On Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Keller Library at 430 S. Broad Street join us for this 45 minute program at 6:00PM. This event is targeted to student-athletes in grades 4-12, parents, and coaches. Presenters from the Sports Legacy Institute Community Educators (SLICE) program at Tulane University (including undergraduate, graduate, and medical students) will use discussion, video, and interactive games to achieve the following learning objectives:
• What is a concussion?
• Why should you care about concussions?
• What can you do about concussions?

Brain Awareness Week: Your Sensational Brain
The Greater New Orleans Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience will sponsor activities on "Your Sensational Brain" at the Children's Resource Center at 913 Napoleon Avenue on Saturday March 21, 2015 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The program is free and targets children 5-12 years old. Through a series of ineteractive activities, a group of volunteer faculty and students from the Neuroscience Programs at the LSU Health Sciences Center and Tulane University will teach the children interesting facts about the brain.
The activities will include:
• Show and tell of various fixed brains
• Show and tell of various brain and neuron models
• Demonstration with brain slices and stained neurons under a microscope and on a screen
• Demonstration of the knee jerk reflex, with children "behaving like neurons"
• Making models of brains with play-doh
