Help Margarita Rebuild and Retire
Dear Tulane Community,
SAFER, a hurricane recovery organization run by Tulane students, is trying to help one of Tulane’s own get back into her house, but we need your help.

Margarita Rounds, who works as a custodian in the Lavin-Bernick University Center, had her home in the Upper 9th Ward completely inundated during Hurricane Katrina. Since that time, she has been working tirelessly to pay for the repairs on her home. Margarita is at a time in her life when she is ready to retire and enjoy her golden years, but the financial burden of rebuilding costs has made that impossible. Instead, she has been forced to take on additional jobs.

SAFER (Student Advocacy for Equitable Recovery) is a student organization that helps hurricane victims by offering construction and repairs on their flood damaged homes. While we are able to provide free labor, we do not have the money to supply the building materials that Margarita needs. We are asking for the support of Tulane faculty, staff, and students in helping us raise the money we need to get Margarita back into her home.

Our goal of $10,000 can easily be met, if we have the generosity and support of the Tulane Community. All money will go directly to materials used on Margarita’s house, so every dollar that you give, whether it becomes a handful of nails, or a piece of drywall, will eventually become an actual piece of Margarita’s home.

You can donate either through our secure online donation portal or by sending a check made out to Tulane University with 'SAFER(Margarita)' in the memo section to:

Every donation helps. Help us give Margarita the retirement that she has earned. Thank you for your generosity.
