The table reveals dramatic deterioration in the condition of Parris loyalists by 1695. In earlier years, whatever differences existed between Salem Village's factions, both groups were better off than Salem Village taxpayers as a whole, whether measured by the average or median tax rate. In 1695, however, this was true only of the anti-Parris contingent. For Parris's supporters, their median tax now only equaled that of Salem Village and their average tax had actually fallen slightly below that of Salem Village.
