The Landscape of Accusations
Salem witchcraft started in early 1692 in Salem Village, now called Danvers. The initial small group of afflicted girls as well as their first three targets — Sarah Good, Sarah Osborne, and Tituba — all lived in Salem Village. But the flare-up soon spread in two waves of accusations, eventually affecting at least two dozen communities. Was there any geographic pattern to the dispersal of accusations?
