Mark McCandless graduated in 1975 with a BSME from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and 1976 with an MSAE from the University of Michigan. He joined Pratt & Whitney in West Palm Beach Florida, performing heat transfer and performance analysis on aircraft engines. The cancellation of that program was followed by running various propulsion-related research and development studies for new launch vehicles while concurrently being the systems engineering team lead for the Program Management and Advanced Program Directorate. He is now the Acting Manager of Program Development, principally focused on follow-on vehicles to the Space Shuttle. In addition, he has duties as the Mission Success Manager for the Falcon Small Launch Vehicle program. He is a member of AIAA, National Space Society, and the Planetary Society.
