Giovanna A. DeQueiroz, PhD

Giovanna A. DeQueiroz, PhDDr. DeQueiroz’s professional interests involve research on developing integrated technologies to convert biomass into higher value products including ethanol, specialty chemicals, biomaterials and animal feed; the use of antimicrobials to inhibit disease-causing microorganisms in foods; and identifying and characterizing antimicrobial resistant bacteria from food products, animal products, and farm environments. She also teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of food microbiology; food safety; and biomass utilization for the production of biofuels and bioproducts.

She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Food Science (Food Microbiology) from Louisiana State University, a Master of Sciences in Animal and Food Industries (Food Microbiology) from Clemson University, and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Clemson University.

She has worked for Pfizer as a Food Scientist and Creanova Inc. as a Microbiologist. Currently, she serves as Assistant Professor at the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, Audubon Sugar Institute in Saint Gabriel, LA.

Overview on the Current Status of Ethanol Production from Lignocellulosics
This presentation will focus on feedstocks, technologies and policies for the production of cellulosic ethanol in the United States.
