Donald F. Sorgenfrei, PE

Donald F. Sorgenfrei, PEDonald F. Sorgenfrei, PE has been employed by Modjeski and Masters for 42 years, first as a designer in the Harrisburg office followed by being a field engineer on the construction of the railroad vertical lift bridge over the Atchafalaya River in Morgan City, LA. Thereafter he was assigned to the New Orleans office returning for a short period of time to design bridge elements on the Scotlandville By-Pass. With increased demands for field work in the New Orleans office he started a Field Services Section which continues to provide services including bridge inspections, preparation of bridge repair plans, respond to bridge accidents and emergencies, and construction monitoring.

Don has been a field engineer, project engineer, project manager and principal-in-charge for the construction of 8 movable bridges. He has personally inspected several thousand bridges in many states primarily on systemwide steel bridge inspections for railroads, has taught bridge inspection classes to major railroads, railroad associations and various agencies and clients.

Donald F. Sorgenfrei is a Senior Vice President in the Firm and Principal-In-Charge of the New Orleans office.

Bridge Inspections — How Good Are They?
The focus of the presentation will be on the inspector's abilities, available access improvements in recent years, condition reporting and the follow through in needed repairs.
