Presentation Topic : Pollution Prevention: A Win-Win Solution

By: Paul Bishop, Ph.D., P.E., DEE

Summary :

It has been twelve years since the Pollution Prevention Act was passed by Congress. Since then, much progress has been made in achieving the goals of the Act. Today, many companies espouse the principles of pollution prevention and routinely use them as a just another requirement of doing business. They have found that, as the 3M Corporation said, "Pollution Prevention Pays." However, many other companies are still resisting putting into place good pollution prevention practices. This presentation will discuss where we have come from, where we are now, and what still can be done to minimize waste generation by industry. Case studies will be used to describe the benefits, and also the costs, of instituting effective pollution prevention.
