"Panel Presentation: Hurricane Impact: Damage, Recovery and Rebuilding/Energy"

Entergy is experienced at hurricane restoration, but hurricane Katrina posed challenges never before seen by the company. With 37,000 square miles of service area impacted and over 1 million customers out of power, Entergy had to respond to challenges surrounding safety and health, security threats, wide spread flooding, loss of communications, and shortage of resources. In the midst of restoration following Katrina, hurricane Rita hit our service area, compounding the problems of restoration. Mr. Bartlett describes how, despite the one-two blow dealt by these hurricanes, Entergy was able to restore power to 75% of customers within 11 days of each storm.
