Technical Services


The Technical Services Division at the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library is responsible for acquiring and processing materials added to the library's collections in all languages and formats. It is also responsible for the organization and a ccess of materials through library classification as well as for the preservation of items in the collections.

The division includes four departments and includes more than 30 librarians and staff working to provide these important technical services.

Monographic Acquisitions

Orders and pays for monographic materials added to the collections. Accepts gifts of materials for the collections and for the library's annual book sale. Manages approval and blanket purchase plans.

Serials Acquisitions

Orders and checks in items of a continuing nature such as newspapers, journals, annual publications, and monographic sets. Creates serial holdings records for the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) in
TULANET.

Cataloging

Describes, organizes, and provides access to all materials added to the collections. Maintains the OPAC in TULANET.

Preservation

Binds, repairs, and conserves library materials.
