Introduction
This document consists of imaginary examples, concocted to illustrate different basic scenarios for providing
analytical added entries for works contained within the edition being catalogued and to compare and contrast the
use of:
- Controlled added entries, using uniform title:
- 700 $t
- 710 $t
- 711 $t
- 730
The uniform title and any name headings are in an established form (either already in an authority record or as
established by the cataloguer of the bib record in the example).
- Uncontrolled added entries, transcribing title as found in the edition being catalogued:
- 740
Please note: The choice of 740s in some examples below (e.g., 2, 3,
and 6) reflects local practice.
These examples all focus on the Books Format.
For further information on the choice and type of added entry, see especially AACR2 and LCRI 21.30J (primarily for
740 uncontrolled added entries) and 21.30M (primarily for 7XX $t and 730 controlled added entries). Scenarios for
the provision of analytical added entries, including situations more complex than the introductory ones provided below,
are also listed in rules such as AACR2/LCRI 21.7, 21.13, and 25.7.
For further information on the form of uniform titles, see AACR2/LCRI Chapter 25.

Examples
While this group of examples includes several different situations, it is not an exhaustive list.
Each example includes only selected fields, intended to illustrate the analytical added entries.
- Personal name heading plus uniform title (700 $t): A work that, if catalogued
independently, would be under personal name main entry. This work is the second work contained in an edition
that lacks a collective title. (Cf. LCRI 21.30J, "Items without a collective title.")
The second work has not been published before, so the authorised form is based on the form of the title in this edition.
- E.g. 100 1 $a Martin, Fiona, $d 1971-
- 245 10 $a Rambles in Radnorshire ; $b and, Walks in South Shropshire / $c by F.T. Martin.
- 260 $a Ludlow, England : $b Border Editions, $c 2002.
- 700 12 $a Martin, Fiona, $d 1971- $t Walks in South Shropshire.
- 740 02 $a Walks in South Shropshire.
- Personal name heading plus uniform title (700 $t): A work that, if catalogued
independently, would be under personal name main entry. This edition consists of a collection of two separate
works by the same author (cf. AACR2/LCRI 25.7), listed in a 505 contents note.
The works have been published previously (cf. example 1), with the second work already
established under a slightly different title.
- E.g. 100 1 $a Martin, Fiona, $d 1971-
- 240 10 $a Rambles in Radnorshire
- 245 10 $a Roaming the Welsh Borders / $c by F.T. Martin.
- 250 $a Rev. ed.
- 260 $a Ludlow, England : $b Border Editions, $c 2004.
- 505 0 $a Rambles in Radnorshire -- Walking in southern Shropshire.
- 700 12 $a Martin, Fiona, $d 1971- $t Walks in South Shropshire.
- 740 02 $a Walking in southern Shropshire.
- Personal name heading plus uniform title (700 $t): A collection of 3 works by
different authors, each of which, if catalogued independently, would be under personal name main entry. There is
a collective title (cf. AACR2/LCRI 21.7B), so the works are listed in a 505 contents note.
None of the works has been published separately before, so the authorised form for each is based on the form in this edition.
- E.g. 245 00 $a Teatro contemporáneo nacional / $c compilado por Epaminondas Pacheco.
- 505 0 $a La sonrisa del gato / Josefina Garza O’Leary - La risa del ratón / Bartolomé Filizola -- El suspiro del cachorro / Gertrudis Echavarría.
- 700 12 $a Garza O’Leary, Josefina, $d 1966- $t Sonrisa del gato.
- 700 12 $a Filizola R., Bartolomé. $t Risa del ratón.
- 700 12 $a Echavarría, Gertrudis María, $d 1970- $t Suspiro del cachorro.
- 740 02 $a Sonrisa del gato.
- 740 02 $a Risa del ratón.
- 740 02 $a Suspiro del cachorro.
- [local practice: 740s in this case, when titles are distinctive, up to 3 titles by different authors; not for more than
3 titles in 505; note the lack of initial article, per LCRI 21.30J, "Title added entry recorded in 740 field"]
- Corporate name heading plus uniform title (710 $t): A work that, if catalogued
independently, would be under corporate body main entry. This work is included in a more general work;
it is substantial enough that the cataloguer has decided to highlight it in a quoted note and provide secondary access to it.
This catalogue has not been published before, so the authorised form is based on the form of the title in this edition.
- E.g. 100 1 $a Grendell, E. W. $q (Ethelbert Wulfstan)
- 245 10 $a Anglo-Saxon coins in Hampshire / $c Ethelbert W. Grendell.
- 500 $a "Catalogue of Anglo-Saxon coins in the Petersfield Mediaeval Museum": p. 60-148.
- 710 22 $a Mediaeval Museum (Petersfield, England). $t Catalogue of Anglo-Saxon coins in the Petersfield Mediaeval Museum.
- 740 02 $a Catalogue of Anglo-Saxon coins in the Petersfield Mediaeval Museum.
- [740 in this case again reflects local practice.]
- Uniform title (730): A work that, if catalogued independently, would be under
a 245 title main entry as a collection. It is included here in a book lacking a collective title.
This work was previously published under the same title as the title in this edition.
- E.g. 245 00 $a Geschichte der deutschen Dichtung / $c herausgegeben von Hartlinde
- Schimmelkumpf.
Geschichte der schweizerischen Dichtung / herausgegeben
- von Willi Axelheimer.
- 730 02 $a Geschichte der schweizerischen Dichtung.
- [740 not needed in this case, since it would be exactly the same as the 730]
- Uniform title (730): An anonymous work that, if catalogued independently, would be
under a 130 title main entry. The title is embedded in information in the 245 field.
This uniform title is already established in the authority file (while this example is imaginary, the uniform title is
an actual, established one). Since it includes a qualifier, the uniform title is different from the form of
title in this edition.
- E.g. 245 00 $a Sea poetry through the ages : $b a discussion of patterns and influences :
- with the Anglo-Saxon text of The seafarer.
- 730 02 $a Seafarer (Anglo-Saxon poem)
- 740 02 $a Seafarer.
- [740 included in this case, since not the same as the 730; note the lack of initial article, per LCRI21.30J,
"Title added entry recorded in 740 field"]
- Name and uniform title with date (700 $t $f ): Several selected works of an individual author, included in a biographical and critical study. A 500 note brings out the selections, which are in more than one form, and justifies an added entry.
Based on the rules in AACR2/LCRI 25.9, the collective uniform title "Selections" is used, and a date
based on publication date is added.
- E.g. 100 1 $a Bornemini, Giuseppe.
- 245 10 $a Studi su Calvino / $c Giuseppe Bornemini.
- 260 $a Perugia : $b Bardinelli, $c c1994.
- 500 $a “Lettere e racconti scelti”: p. 147-273.
- 700 12 $a Calvino, Italo. $t Selections. $f 1994.
- [no 740 in this case, since there are 3 or more works by the same author; the collective uniform title covers the situation]
- Name and uniform title with language (700 $t $l): A translation of the works in
example 1, still without collective title.
- E.g. 100 1 $a Martin, Fiona, $d 1971-
- 240 10 $a Rambles in Radnorshire. $l French
- 245 10 $a Randonnées dans Radnorshire ; $b Balades dans le sud de Shropshire / $c Fiona Martin ; traduit par Gilles Parcours.
- 700 12 $a Martin, Fiona, $d 1971- $t Walks in South Shropshire. $l French.
- 740 02 $a Balades dans le sud de Shropshire.
- Name and uniform title with date and language (700 $t $l $f): Translations of
several selected works of an author, included in a critical study; similar to the scenario in example 7
with the added factor of language.
- E.g. 100 1 $a Bornemini, Giuseppe.
- 245 10 $a Studi sulle opere di Borges / $c Giuseppe Bornemini.
- 260 $a Perugia : $b Bardinelli, $c c2002.
- 500 $a Includes Italian translations of selected poems and short stories of Borges.
- 700 12 $a Borges, Jorge Luis, $d 1899- $t Selections. $l Italian. $f 2002.
- [no 740 in this case, since there are 3 or more works by the same author; the collective uniform title covers the situation]
