for binding at time of cataloging:
The following categories of
materials are to be sent for binding at time of cataloging, unless
they are in a location or other category listed in section
A above:
1.
Reference paperback material (for any REF location except as
noted in section A above)
2.
Materials that are under 1/4-inch thick, because of their
vulnerability to damage and theft

C. Preparation
procedures for sending materials to Preservation
Materials processed according to
these instructions include:
·
Items in categories listed in section B.1-6
above
·
Any other material of questionable strength or durability.
(Hardback items that
only need to have an errata slip inserted are sent to the Processing Unit and
get a single barcode inside the back cover as usual.)
E.g. Cecil
Day-Lewis
" "
If only a forename
is used in the heading, the forename should be dotted.
E.g. Herodotus
"
E.g. Proyecto
Regional Financiamiento de Desarrollo
"
" "
"
"
o
If the form of
the surname or corporate body does not match the entry element in the 1XX field
in the bibliographic record, the 1xx version needs to be written on the title
page, then "dotted." If the 1XX name is not present on the
t.p., write the first initials and surname(s) of a personal name and the
complete corporate body name based on the 1XX form and dot appropriately.
Any non-roman alphabet or Old German Fraktur script entries need to be
transliterated.
E.g. The /wind
in the willows/
E.g. Der
/Zauberberg/
Roman
2. Affix a piggyback barcode label to the
t.p. verso. Place it in the upper left corner of the page if possible,
otherwise near an outer margin. Be sure to leave at least 1/2 inch of
margin on each edge and gutter (inner margin), to allow for page trimming and binding.
The piggyback barcode label can be placed vertically if it fits better that
way.
3. Create item record at time of cataloging
as usual.
o
Include "ENUM" field if necessary.
4. Keep the following with the book when
they are present:
Preservation is
responsible for retaining these materials until the monograph has been bound.
5. ONLY for materials requiring special handling:
Insert a bindery slip and transfer any information from the routing slip to the
bindery slip.
6. Special instructions for shelf-ready books:
7. Place item on truck labelled
"Preservation Items from Cataloging."
8. Special instructions for MATH Library
books:
MATH Library items
are not sent for binding at time of cataloging. Attach a piggy-back
barcode to verso of title page of Math Library paperbacks. The MATH
Library Technician will decide which items need binding.
