Jun-Kyo Francis Suh, PhD
Dr. Jun-Kyo Francis Suh is an Associate Professor at Tulane and is the director of the Tulane Cartilage
Lab.
A BRIEF PASSAGE OF HIS LIFE:
Dr. Suh was born in the city of Seoul, Korea. He went to college and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Seoul National University in 1978. Two years later, he also earned his Master's Degree. He was then commissioned a junior Lieutenant in the Korean Navy and taught midshipmen at the Korean Naval Academy. In 1984, he married his current lovely wife, Nam-Kyo, and came to the United States to study at the Rensselear Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. That's how he fell in love with New York. He has been a loyal Yankee fan since then. In 1989, he earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from RPI. From 1990 to 1991, he did his Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in the Orthopaedic Biomechanics Lab of Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. From 1991-1999, he was an assistant professor in the
Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. While at the University of Pittsburgh, he also hold joint faculty appointments of the Department of Bioengineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
In the middle of hot summer of 1999, he decided to migrate south and joined the Biomedical Engineering Department of Tulane University. In 2000, he successfully survived his first Mardi Gras in New Orleans. He loves New Orleans foods, particularly crawfish, gumbo, and oyster shells. New Orleans is also a wonderful place for him as he loves seafoods. He even has his own secret recipe for sushi. He loves to serve his sushi to his guests at his Lakeview home. Here at Tulane, he works hard as usual and enjoys teaching his classes. He is also trying to spend some weekend time with his two sons, Eric and Stephen.
