Immunizations Louisiana law requires all entering college students to have up-to-date immunizations or immunity against measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, and tetanus. All incoming students must comply with the immunization program. REGISTRATION WILL BE BLOCKED FOR ANYONE WHO HAS NOT SUBMITTED PROOF OF IMMUNIZATION. If you have any questions regarding the immunization program or policy, please contact the Tulane Student Health Center at (504) 865-5255. You may also download immunization forms, health insurance forms, and waiver forms from their website.
Payroll Information All new students awarded a stipend (teaching assistants, research assistants and fellows) should present an original social security card for payroll purposes. This includes students who are not citizens of the United States. If you do not have an original social security card, you may want to go to a local office of the Social Security Administration (before arriving at Tulane) and complete Form SS5. Three to four weeks are required for issuance of a social security card. In addition, federal law requires that Tulane University verify employment eligibility of all students receiving stipends checks, work-study checks, or any other remuneration from Tulane. As a result, all fellows, teaching assistants, and research assistants will be required to complete Section 1 of the Form I-9 and provide original documents that establish identity and employment eligibility. If you will be receiving payment from Tulane, the following forms will be required from you so that we may process your payroll appointment. Please visit the Payroll Office website at forms and information. You may download the forms, complete them, and submit them to the dean's office upon your arrival at Tulane. (Do not mail the forms.)

This means that you must bring sufficient funds with you to cover initial expenses for security deposits, electricity and gas, one month’s rent, furniture, etc.
Taxation If you are a U.S. citizen and you will receive a scholarship, assistantship, or fellowship, you should read Publication 970: TAX BENEFITS FOR EDUCATION (Sec. 1. Housing To inquire about housing, please contact the Office of Housing and Residence Life. There are a limited number of on-campus apartments for graduate students. Most graduate students find apartments near the university.
Health Insurance The Student Center Health fee provides access to outpatient health services and personnel available through the University Student Health Center. In addition, the university’s policy is that all students must have health insurance coverage. This requirement can be met by subscribing to the Tulane-sponsored health insurance plan (Chickering/Aetna) offered through the university. The cost for 2009-10 is $1,754 for individual coverage for 12 months. Additional coverage for family members is available at an additional cost. To learn more about the Tulane-sponsored medical insurance plan, the deadline dates to accept/decline, and proof of other insurance, please visit the University Student Health Center website.
