George Boros was a black-belt karate
student of Master Mikami and trained at LKA (Louisiana Karate Association)
from 1988 till 2002. In February 2003, George died of cancer.
A mathematics professor at Xavier University, George also taught math at Tulane and UNO. George's other passion was music, and as an accomplished pianist he could play by memory some of the most difficult classical concertos. |
Our club's sensei and his wife were good friends with George and continue to be with his wife, Marian. George Boros had an amazing collection of books, and one of the subjects was karate and affine martial arts. To preserve this part of his library, Marian, Kyriakos and the Tulane Karate Club thought of using George's collection as a base to form a "martial-arts library," available primarily to TKC students, but also to all other ASKF club members in the region. If there is a specific book you are searching or topic you are researching, ask us - we may be of help. Click here to see a list. This 1989 picture shows George as a beginner, part of the first group that formed the core for the LKA Tuesday/Thursday morning class that was started in 1988 and has been very successful since. George is shown first from the left in the back row, together with Ron and Fuji. Front row from the left are Billy, Pattie and Laura. |
