Our facilities

Riedel Librarian: Dr. Thomas D. Frazel

The Department of Classical Studies at Tulane University is located in Joseph Merrick Jones Hall, across from Howard-Tilton Memorial Library.

Our offices are located mainly on the second floor of Jones Hall, where we have a small seminar room in which is housed the department's Riedel Library, a non-circulating collection available for consultation during regular business hours, if the room is not being used for a class.

Graduate students are allotted office space in Jones Hall. In addition to campus computing and library facilities, graduate students have access to department computers and resources, such as microfiche editions of the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum, Corpus Inscritpionum Graecarum, and Pauly-Wissowa, housed within the department.

Our main library on campus, Howard-Tilton Memorial Library, has many Greek and Latin text editions, the Lexicon Topographicum Urbis Romae, Lexicon Iconographicum Mythologiae Classicae, and the new English edition of Pauly-Wissowa, to name but a few resources. The university also subscribes to number of electronic journals and databases useful to Classics students, such as JSTOR, Project Muse, and L'année philologique.

Jones Hall is located on Freret St. in Uptown.
